There is a NEW LIMIT ON WALLEYE for WISCONSIN- MICHIGAN BOUNDARY WATERS (Cisco Chain). Even though in the Wisconsin DNR 2026-2027 hook and line fishing regulation book (page 76) states the daily limit for walleye is 5 over 15 inches, their website says only 3 walleyes over 15 inches can be kept on (Mamie, West Bay & Big Lake) the Cisco Chain of lakes. But the limit of walleyes on the Chain for MICHIGAN LAKES is still 5 over 15 inches.

DEPENDING ON THE LAKE AND TIME OF DAY, THE WATER TEMPERATIRE IS 71 to 73 DEGREES.

THERE ARE MUSKY SUCKERS IN THE BAIT SHOP NOW AND I STILL HAVE LEECHES.

WALLEYE – GOOD. The Walleye bite is picking up with (some) being a little deeper on 14 to 20 feet on rocks and mid-lake humps. But most are being boated in 12 to 16 feet weeds edges. Leeches with slip bobbers and fathead minnows are still the bait. As always, the evening bite in shallower weeds and rock shorelines when they come up to feed is still your best chance to land some keepers.

PERCH – GOOD.  Perch are finally starting to school up. Now instead of one or two in spots, once anglers fine a school, they could be in that location for a few hours. Cabbage is the place and 6 to 10 feet is the depth. But bigger perch still seem to be holding near weed edges (8 to 12 feet) with a few walleyes mixed in. Crappie minnow and crawlers are still working, but small plastic tipped with a piece of crawler can work too.

CRAPPIE – GOOD. Like Pearch, crappies are schooling and you will find more in one spot than before. There holding on weed edges in 6 to 10 feet, but most are still being found near shorelines weeds 5 to 7 feet (early in the morning and again in the evening). Crappie minnows and small jigs tipped with a piece of crawler or plastic has been working.

BLUEGILL – GOOD. Nothing still hasn’t changed from last few weeks; Gills are being caught everywhere on the chain in 4 to 6 feet weeds. A piece of crawler, wax worms, beaver tails are the bait to use.

SM MOUTH BASS- GOOD. 4 to 6 feet shoreline weeds and just a little deeper on rocks seems to be the location. Medium plastics, 3″ worms rigs are still working well. Even jigs tipped with fathead minnows and crawlers are still working too. In the evening you might find a few walleyes in these locations also.

LG. MOUTH BASS – GOOD. More anglers are catching Lg. Mouths on top water baits over thick weeds, but do not overlook boat houses using top-water and buzz baits.

MUSKY – GOOD. The musky bite is picking up. I have not heard of monsters being caught, but there has been more seen and raised than the last 3 weeks. Top-waters baits over shallow weed flats early in the day and later in the day seems to be the time to use this lure. With the water temps a bit lower, anglers are trying suckers but i haven’t heard if they are working better than artificial bait. Will tell ya next week.

NORTHERN PIKE – GOOD.  No wall hangers are being caught but pike fishing is still good, and shoreline weeds is a good location. ALL bait, live and artificial have been productive.

PLEASE RELEASE WALLEYES OVER 24 INCHES. THESE BIG GIRLS PRODUCE MORE EGGS AND LARGER WALLEYES IN THE FUTURE.
