CISCO CHAIN FISHING REPORT 10/2/26

There is a NEW LIMIT ON WALLEYE for WISCONSIN- MICHIGAN BOUNDARY WATERS (Cisco Chain). Even though in the Wisconsin DNR 2026-2027 hook and line fishing regulation book (page 76) states the daily limit for walleye is 5 over 15 inches, their website says only 3 walleyes over 15 inches can be kept on (Mamie, West Bay & Big Lake) the Cisco Chain of lakes. But the limit of walleyes on the Chain for MICHIGAN LAKES is still 5 over 15 inches.

DEPENDING ON THE LAKE AND TIME OF DAY, THE WATER TEMPERATIRE IS 62 to 64 DEGREES.

THERE ARE MUSKY SUCKERS IN THE BAIT SHOP NOW AND I STILL HAVE LEECHES.

WALLEYE – GOOD. More Walleye are being caught than the last few weeks, but few have been keepers. Anglers perch fishing in 6 to 8 feet cabbage have been catching walleye mixed in. Also, walleye are now being found related to deeper (16 to 24 feet) rock bars and points.  Leeches with slip bobbers and fathead minnows are still the bait to use. As always, the evening bite in shallower weeds and rock shorelines when they come up to feed is still your best chance to land some keepers.

PERCH – GOOD.  Nothing has changed from last week. Perch have finally started to school up. Cabbage is the place and 6 to 8 feet is the depth. But bigger perch still seem to be holding near weed edges (8 to 10 feet) with a few walleyes mixed in. Crappie minnow and crawlers are still working.

CRAPPIE – FAIR. Crappies are schooling up too, but the bite has slowed some. Like perch, there holding on weed edges in 6 to 10 feet, but some crappies have been seen suspended in deeper water and will not commit. Still, give early mornings a shot near shorelines weeds. Crappie minnows and small jigs tipped with a piece of crawler or plastic has been working.

BLUEGILL – GOOD. Nothing still hasn’t changed from last few weeks; Gills are being caught everywhere on the chain in 4 to 6 feet weeds. A piece of crawler, wax worms, beaver tails are the bait to use.

SM MOUTH BASS- GOOD. 6 to 8 feet shoreline weeds and shallow rocks seem to be the location where anglers are getting Smallies. Medium plastics, 3″ worm rigs are still working well. Even people fishing for perch with a jig tipped with fathead minnows and crawlers are catching bass. In the evening you might find a few walleyes in these locations also.

LG. MOUTH BASS – GOOD. Same as last week, Lg. Mouths are being taken on top water baits over thick weeds, but do not overlook boat houses and the swim platforms still in the water. Top-water and buzz bait have been working well.

MUSKY – GOOD. With the water temps going down the musky bite should be getting better. I have only heard of few being raised, but there has been more action on Top-waters baits and medium spinner baits over shallow weeds. If suckers are your bait of choice, I would stick with the medium suckers until the water drops into the upper 50s.

NORTHERN PIKE – GOOD.  No wall hangers are being caught but pike fishing is still good, and shoreline weeds is a good location. ALL bait, live and artificial have been productive.

PLEASE RELEASE WALLEYES OVER 24 INCHES. THESE BIG GIRLS PRODUCE MORE EGGS AND LARGER WALLEYES IN THE FUTURE.
