FISHING REPORT FOR THE CISCO CHAIN
SORRY FOR THE LATEREPORT, BUT I’VE BEEN BUSY WITH OTHER COMMITMENTS.
FOR THOSE WHO READ OUR FISHING REPORT, I HAVE GOOD NEW AND BAD NEW THIS WEEK. THE BAD NEWS IS, SATURDAY I CLOSED THE BAIT SHOP FOR THE YEAR. THE GOOD NEWS UNFORTUNATELY IS, MOST FISHING HAS REALLY PICKED UP. THE WATER TEMPERATURE IS FINALLY LOW TO MID 50s AND THIS IS GREAT NEWS FOR THE ANGLERS THAT STILL HAVE A BOAT IN THE WATER OR JUST COMING UP FOR A FEW DAYS.
WALLEYE – Instead of saying poor, I can at least tell you Walleye fishing is now fair to good. Now more Walleye were being found on structure (rocks and gravel) in 20′ to 24′ of water. Also, a few have been caught on deeper weed edges. Anglers are using live bait (fatheads and walleye suckers). Early morning and evening bite is still producing more fish than day light hours.
PERCH – With the water in the 50s, perch are being caught in good numbers and bigger. Some are still being found in deeper weeds 7 to 9 feet. Others are even deeper (12′ to 16′) over mud bottoms on the north side of the chain. Crawlers and crappie minnows are being used.
CRAPPIE – Find green cabbage (6 to 9 feet) and you will find Crappie. Like perch, anglers are using slip bobbers with crappie minnows or crawlers. With the lower water temps, don’t overlook fishing downed trees (deeper end) 8 to 12 feet.
BLUEGILL – It’s been crazy this season, but huge 10 inchers are still being picked up. I’ve caught mine in 6-to-10-foot weeds on crawlers under slip bobbers and others using crappie minnows.
BASS – Last week I caught two (21” and 23”) Largemouth, one using a fathead (6′ to 8′) water and the other with a crawler (10′) water over weeds. I have not heard too much on Smallies. The (6′ to 9′) range in weeds has been the best spot. If Bass is your thing, I would also try throwing medium plastics in the locations I caught mine.
MUSKY – THE MUSKY BITE IS ON. The sucker bite has really been hot. Some have been netted using bulldogs in 8′ to 10′ of water but, most have been boated while trolling suckers on quick strike rigs in 10 to 16 feet of water.
NORTHERN PIKE – The Northerns being caught now are much smaller than a few weeks ago. Can’t give you locations because they are still being caught all over the chain using all different baits. I would try small to med plastics as well as has live bait.
BEING THIS IS OUR LAST REPORT FOR THE SEASON, I HOPE ALLNORTHWOODS.COM FISHING REPORTS AND THE INFORAMION WE RECEIVE FROM GUIDES AND ANGLERS HELPED YOU CATCH FISH.
FOR THOSE WHO ICE FISH, WHEN IT’S SAFE ICE, I’LL TALK TO ANGLERS AND PASS ON ANY INFORMATION I CAN.
PLEASE RELEASE WALLEYE OVER 24 INCHES. THESE BIG GIRLS PRODUCE MORE EGGS AND LARGER FISH FOR THE FUTURE.
