We’ll keep our fingers crossed, but It’s a good possibility that Vilas County could open the snowmobile trails Monday December 15th. 

I wrote last week what is involved to opening, maintaining and keeping snowmobile trails in the best possible condition throughout the season and that responsibility falls on each towns snowmobile club (ALL VOLUNTEERS) members. As I mentioned, those volunteers are responsible for grooming many miles of trails and they put in a lot of hours so people can ride on the best trails in Wisconsin. Vilas County alone has over 600 miles of groomed trails, so where to begin your adventure?

Land O Lakes is the perfect starting spot for snowmobiling in the Northwoods for many reasons, but the biggest is LOCATION. From downtown Land O Lakes snowmobilers can reach Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, Eagle River, Sayner, Conover, Phelps, Presque Isle, Boulder Junction, Manitowish Waters Mercer and more.

Need a place to stay or a place to eat?  Bel-Air Motel and the Gateway Lodge are two accommodations where snowmobilers can ride from their front door. For breakfast, lunch and casual dining, the Sunrise Lodge, Pine-Cone Cafe, Forest Lake Cafe, Brews Pub and Bents Camp are all great locations, and are assessable by snowmobiles.

For fine dining, (trust us on this one), ALLNORTHWOODS.COM highly recommends BEAR TRAP INN, TWILIGHT SUPPER CLUB, ASANA SUKA and GATEWAY LODGE.

Not only will you find Land O Lakes the best location to start your snowmobiling adventure, but there are also many other businesses from gas stations, spot shops, antiques, grocery, gift shops and stores with unique items like THE MAD BAER.

Then you have been riding all day, moguls have built up, and your back is feeling it. Yep, head to the UP NORTH WELLNESS CENTER. and Dr Doug Tansor (best chiropractor around) will get you back riding your sled.

With all this to offer, why would anyone pick another town other than LAND O LAKES to start their winter vacation.
And if you don’t have a snowmobile, did I mention you can rent one at Land O Lakes recreations?

GET READY FOR OUR TRAILS TO OPEN, HAVE FUN, EAT WELL AND MAYBE ENJOY A COUPLE OF DRINKS, BUT RIDE SAFE.

Every year we hear about snowmobile fatalities, and ALL OF THEM could have been prevented. Remember, alone or with a group, ONE BAD decision or ONE MORE DRINK will lead a person wishing they could start that day over again to change a BAD outcome. PLEASE, do not ride over your ability, slow down, never ride alone and enjoy yourself, but control your intake of cocktails.
