THIS WEEKS FISHING REPORT JULY 30th
THIS FISHING REPORT IS FROM THE CISCO CHAIN OF LAKES
IF ANYONE WOULD LIKE TO CONTRIBUTE INFORMATION FOR THE CHAIN OR ON OTHER LAKES IN THE AREA, PLEASE DO SO.
As of this writing July 30th, water temperatures have been higher than usual. They were in the mid 70s but reached the high 70s and into mid 80s as of yesterday. Now with the lower air temperatures the next couple of days low 70s along with cooler nights ahead, this should bring the water temps down some.
AGAIN, THIS WEEK, LEECHES AND CRAWLERS HAVE BEEN WORKING BEST AND FISHING HAS BEEN FAIR TO GOOD.
WALLEYE – Are still being found more in cover than on structure so far. More are being found in wood (6′ to 8′) and nicer size Walleye are a bit deeper (9′ to 12′) wood. Others are being caught in (9′ to 12′) weeds. Evening bite near shorelines with rocks (7 to 10′) are being productive. Jigs with crappie minnows are being used as are, crawlers and leeches under a slip float are being used.
PERCH – This past week, I fished and found nice Perch in 4 feet of water in shoreline vegetation. But Perch have still been caught in 5 to 7 feet. Weed flats seems to be the best location. For nicer size Perch you might try deeper (7 to 9 feet) weeds. Anglers just have to keep trying different locations until you find a school. Crawlers worked best for me over minnows and leeches.
CRAPPIE – Good size Crappies are being caught early mornings near shorelines. Mid-day they are moving out a little deeper. Angles could start in 5 to 6 feet of water on shorelines with green vegetation. Again, if you’re not getting bites, keep (adjusting) moving a little deeper until you find them. Crappie minnows have been catching some, but a piece of crawler under a slip bobber is working beter.
BLUEGILL – To find hand size Bluegills, use regular size leeches in 8’weeds and just outside of Lily Pads 5 to 7 feet. They’re also being caught EARLY morning near shorelines in 4 to 6 feet of water on crawlers. You might even pick up a couple of Walleye.
SM MOUTH – During the day Smallies are being caught in (7′ to 10′) weed edges. There have been a few anglers hooking Smallies in this area. Evening bite has been working well on shoreline rocks 3′ to 4′ of water. Mid-size plastics have been being used along with mid-size minnows.
Lg. BASS – Like last week, not many are being caught, but a younger girl landed a nice (posted on our picture page) Lg Mouth. Caught in 6 feet of water using a fat head minnow in weeds.
MUSKY – For those who are looking to have a big one on the end of their rod, angles I have talked to said, they are getting quite a few follow ups in (6′ to 8′) weeds, but muskies are being caught all over. I’m being told there are more follow up’s than hook-ups. Don’t be shy about going with bigger baits and deeper water. Just saying.
NORTHERN PIKE – Good size (20″ to 24″) Northern have been being caught this past week. Mostly in (6′ to 8′) vegetation near inlets from other lakes because of the cooler water. Just 2 degrees can make a big difference.
I’M GOING OUT TO TRY MY LUCK TOMMOROW AND FRIDAY AND WILL UPDATE THIS REPORT FRYDAY EVEING FOR YOU WEEKENDERS.
ALLNORTHWOODS WILL KEEP PASSING ON ANY FISHING REPORTS AND INFORAMION WE GET FROM LOCAL GUIDES AND ANGLERS ON A WEEKLY BASIS.
