WALLEYE ALL OVER

With the title of this article, one might think that Walleyes are just about jumping in boats. Well, that’s not the case. Like the rest of you, I’m waiting for a summer pattern, and it hasn’t happened yet. As most of you know, I’m always asking anglers what they are catching, where (weeds, rocks, wood) and depth each species are being caught.

This time of year, I am usually fishing mid-lake humps and deeper rock bars for Walleye, but not now. At this point I would love to tell everyone the best location to find and catch Walleyes, but it’s just not possible. Walleyes are still being caught in 4 to 6′ weeds, 5 to 8′ wood and on some rocks 6 to 10′. At this point I would love to tell everyone the best locations, but I can’t.

Here’s what I believe is the reason why the Walleye’s are being caught all over. It’s all mother nature’s fault. With the water temperatures being so inconsistent, (low 70s and jumping to high 70s, then back to mid 70s) the fish do not know where to go. I will say, low light conditions at the location above would be some good fishing.

Fishing shallow shoreline rocks at dusk, when the Walleye come up to feed on baitfish is still the best way to put fish in the live well. That being said, that early night bite will only last about 45 minutes and then shut down. If fishing at dusk or night is not your thing, remember this. If the wind is blowing into an area, that will push baitfish shallow and predators will be there too, eating their fair share.

Start wind blowing shorelines early and keep moving deeper until you start catching fish, because WALLEYE ARE ALL OVER.
