THE PAULDING LIGHT
Being this coming Friday is Halloween; keep your eye out for little ghost and goblins on the side of the road and parking lots for trunk and treats in most towns. But there are many locations in the Northwoods where there are ghostly sightings and other unexplainable paranormal activities, if you believe in such things. One of those daunting mysteries is not far from Land O Lakes and it doesn’t have to be Halloween to be seen, because this phenomenon can be seen year-round.
If you’re a local or visitor, I would say THE PAULDING LIGHT is the most unexplained phenomenon not only in the Northwoods, but in the Midwest. This mystery light has been seen for over 60 years off Hwy 45 on Robbins Pond Rd. Most accounts say it starts as a small white or red to white glowing orb at the end of a valley that moves left to right, then gets bigger and brighter as it approaches the end of said valleys barricaded and then vanishes.
It’s been said that if you believe in paranormal phenomenon’s, you will see the light, if you do not believe in such a thing, you will not. So, not everyone sees this mysterious light, but the people that have viewed it outnumbers the ones that have not. For those that have witnessed the Paulding Light, I’ve heard some view it as scary while others said it’s like a religious experience. Whatever you believe, is the Paulding Light something supernatural or real?
All of the investigations into the Paulding Light, from the reflection of headlights, natural gas to atmospheric conditions, NONE can confirm or have scientific proof for an explanation. Even professional paranormal investigators that could not explain what causes the light to appear. Then there is local folklore for what is causing this orb of light appearing at the end of a valley.
It’s the ghost of a railroad conductor that tried to stop a train by waving a lantern but was hit and killed. Another it’s the headlamp of a worker from a copper mine that died in the area. Or the flashlight of the man that was killed looking for his lost son one night. Then the natives Americans believe it is the spirits of tribal hunters.
I will tell you this. Years ago, Monica and I visited this location on a chilly rainy evening and were the only vehicle there. We sat in our truck with the headlights off and YES, we personally experienced what some called the Mysteries Paulding Light. So, whatever the explanation is, scientific or paranormal, we have seen and believe there is such a light.
Even if you don’t believe in the paranormal or the unknown, if you show up at dusk to this location at wait until the black of night, there is a good chance you will encounter the PAULDING LIGHT.

Being coming here all my life, and now living here, I still have not made my way up there. I need to make my way up there someday.
Mary, you should go there, and you might be surprised at what you will see.
