I wrote this article about resorts, bars and supper clubs that are haunted in or close to Land O Lake earlier this week but also wrote about the PAULDING LIGHT. Being Halloween is coming up soon; I decided to post both. I know there are people that do not believe in ghost or anything paranormal but for those who do, you might be surprised at some of them that are close to home.

When it comes to paranormal activity or ghost stories in the Northwoods, the most talked about would be the (opening picture) SUMMERWIND MANSION.  There is no evidence of the mansion that was once on the shores of West Bay Lake now, but there are many stories about the past owners. One fired a gun at a ghost and moved out of the house. The next owners couldn’t take the hauntings either. The husband had a nervous breakdown, and his wife attempted suicide because of seeing apparitions.

According to a few people and past employees, there has been some ghostly sightings at the KING’S GATEWAY HOTEL. It’s been said the basement makes people feel uneasy. Some have heard whispering and footsteps while being the only one’s down there. There has been guess that said they have seen a white mist at the end of hallways also.

Another location that can be added to the list of haunted places in Land O Lake is BENTS CAMP. Charles (Charlie) Bents opened Bents Camp in 1896 and he’s still there today. Most employees have seen Charlie in many locations of the lodge. From sitting in a booth, to peeking out from round corners. One person even reported being touched. At one point, through a psychic medium Charlie has given his approval on some things and disapproval on others.

Moving on to Boulder Junction, The HEADWATERS RESTAURANT, now RAZZ’S ON THE RIVER has been haunted for years. There is a lady in a red dress that has been seen many times and then there is some kind of haunting in the basement that the people that used to work there will not talk about. Then there is Stevenson creek area that people have experienced ghostly encounters. Some have reported seeing shadow figures in the woods

In Manitowish waters, there is a ghost of a local shot and killed by the FBI during the 1934 the Dillinger’s escape from LITTLE BOHEMIA. Not only has this man been seen many times, but people have seen ghostly shadows and after the restaurant has closed have heard footsteps and other noises that cannot be explained.

Not far from Manitowish waters is the town of Mercer and for decades the ghost of a woman named LEDA has been seen walking around the MERCER CEMETERY (Mercer Lake Circle & Beachway Drive). Leda has also been seen placing flowers on her own headstone.

If you believe in paranormal activities or not, all these hauntings can’t be made up, right?
