CISCO CHAIN FISHING REPORT 10/8/ 26

There is a NEW LIMIT ON WALLEYE for WISCONSIN- MICHIGAN BOUNDARY WATERS (Cisco Chain). Even though in the Wisconsin DNR 2026-2027 hook and line fishing regulation book (page 76) states the daily limit for walleye is 5 over 15 inches, their website says only 3 walleyes over 15 inches can be kept on (Mamie, West Bay & Big Lake) the Cisco Chain of lakes. But the limit of walleyes on the Chain for MICHIGAN LAKES is still 5 over 15 inches.

DEPENDING ON THE LAKE AND TIME OF DAY, THE WATER TEMPERATIRE IS 56 to 58 DEGREES. BUT, WITH THIS WEEKEND BEING IN THE MID-80s, WHO KNOWS WHAT THAT WILL DO TO FISHING.

THERE ARE MUSKY SUCKERS IN THE BAIT SHOP NOW AND I STILL HAVE LEECHES.

WALLEYE – FAIR. With the water temperature cooling, one would think the Walleye bite would be coming on strong, but I haven’t heard anyone doing really well. Anglers have been landing some in 6 to 8 feet cabbage. Others have caught a few on rock bars (mid depth) (18 to 20 feet. But don’t overlook points. I will say, LEECHES with slip bobbers has been catching most walleye. I have been selling out of the bigger walleye suckers every time I get them but, have not heard if they are working better than fatheads. As always, the evening bite in shallower weeds and rock shorelines when they come up to feed is still your best chance to land some keepers.

PERCH – GOOD.  Perch are being found in 4 to 8 feet vegetation.  But keep checking near weed edges (8 to 10 feet) and you might find a few walleyes too. Crappie minnow and crawlers are still working.

CRAPPIE – GOOD. Holding on weed edges in 6 to 10 feet, but some crappies have been seen suspended in deeper water and will not commit. Still, give early mornings a shot near shorelines weeds. Crappie minnows and small jigs tipped with a piece of crawler or plastic has been working.

BLUEGILL – GOOD. Nothing still hasn’t changed from last few weeks; Gills are being caught everywhere on the chain in 4 to 6 feet weeds. A piece of crawler, wax worms, beaver tails are the bait to use.

SM MOUTH BASS- GOOD. 6 to 8 feet shoreline weeds and shallow rocks seem to be the location where anglers are getting Smallies. Medium plastics, 3″ worm rigs are still working well. Even people fishing for perch with a jig tipped with fathead minnows and crawlers are catching bass. In the evening you might find a few walleyes in these locations also.

LG. MOUTH BASS – GOOD. Lg. Mouths are being taken on top water baits over thick weeds, and around stumps in shallow water. Top-water and buzz bait have been working well.

MUSKY – GOOD. With the water temps now in the 50s I hearing more musky are being caught are. Shallow, shallow, shallow is the location. Top-waters baits and medium spinner baits is the bait. Like last week, if suckers are your bait of choice, I would stick with the medium suckers.

NORTHERN PIKE – GOOD.  A few bigger Pike are being caught, and shoreline weeds is still the location. ALL bait, live and artificial have been productive.

PLEASE RELEASE WALLEYES OVER 24 INCHES. THESE BIG GIRLS PRODUCE MORE EGGS AND LARGER WALLEYES IN THE FUTURE.
