There is a NEW LIMIT ON WALLEYE for WISCONSIN- MICHIGAN BOUNDARY WATERS (Cisco Chain). Even though in the Wisconsin DNR 2026-2027 hook and line fishing regulation book (page 76) states the daily limit for walleye is 5 over 15 inches, their website says only 3 walleyes over 15 inches can be kept on (Mamie, West Bay & Big Lake) the Cisco Chain of lakes. But the limit of walleyes on the Chain for MICHIGAN LAKES is still 5 over 15 inches.

LAST WEEK I WROTE WE FINALLY GOT A BEAK FROM THE HEAT, BUT THEN CAME THE SMOKE FROM WILDFIRES. WELL, THE AIR QUALITY IS BETTER BUT THEN WE GOT HIT WITH THE WORSE STORM I CAN REMEMBER. AS OF THIS MORNING, THERE ARE SO MANY PEOPLE STILL WITHOUT POWER AND DO NOT KNOW WHEN THAT WILL BE RESTORED. THERE ARE NOT MANY FOLKS FISHING AND I HAVE NOT RECEIVED OR TALKED TO A LOT OF ANGLERS. THAT BEING SAID, HERE WHAT I DO KNOW FOR THIS WEEKS REPORT.

WALLEYE – FAIR. Simmer pattern is still on, and mid-lake humps and rock bars are where anglers are locating some keepers over 15 inches. Leeches with slip bobbers are the bait that is working as are crawlers. Anglers fishing for Walleye are also boating Sm. Mouth Bass. Like every week, don’t forget the evening bite in shallower weeds and shorelines when they come up to feed.

PERCH – GOOD.  (Fish deeper). If you can locate cabbage in 6 to 14 feet, you should find perch. Some anglers are still finding them in 12 to 16 feet over mud bottoms. Crawlers will still land perch, but crappie minnows are still doing better.

CRAPPIE – FAIR. Again, not much has changed from last week. Crappie bite has not been great, but some nice size fish are being caught suspended in deeper water (10 to 12 feet) and Crappie minnows and/or crawlers is the bait being use.

BLUEGILL – GOOD. Like last week, Gills are being caught everywhere on the chain in 4 to 6 feet weeds. A piece of crawler, wax worms, beaver tails and even leeches have been producing.

SM MOUTH – GOOD. Like last week, Some Smallies are being caught using plastics in 10 to 20 feet vegetation. And bit deeper weeds to rock areas. A few Walleyes are being boated by Bass anglers too.

Lg. BASS – GOOD.  6-inch weedless jig heads with soft plastics (worms) are working around shoreline weeds 6 to 12 feet. Also try top water baits are early in the day.

MUSKY – There have been a few people fishing for this fish and have boated a few but small muskies.  

NORTHERN PIKE – GOOD. The pike bite has been getting better with the water cooling a bit.  Still fish deeper weeds and inlets from other lakes as this water will be a few degrees cooler. ALL bait, live and artificial have been productive.

PLEASE RELEASE WALLEYES OVER 24 INCHES. THESE BIG GIRLS PRODUCE MORE EGGS AND LARGER WALLEYES IN THE FUTURE.
