There is a NEW LIMIT ON WALLEYE for WISCONSIN- MICHIGAN BOUNDARY WATERS (Cisco Chain). Even though in the Wisconsin DNR 2026-2027 hook and line fishing regulation book (page 76) states the daily limit for walleye is 5 over 15 inches, their website says only 3 walleyes over 15 inches can be kept on (Mamie, West Bay & Big Lake) the Cisco Chain of lakes. But the limit of walleyes on the Chain for MICHIGAN LAKES is still 5 over 15 inches.

DEPENDING ON WHERE YOU ARE ON THE CHAIN, AS OF YESTERDAY, THE WATER TEMPERATURE IS 75 to 77 DEGREES. As you will see below, PERCH fishing has changed from good to fair. As has raising MUSKIES. But CRAPPIE has picked up.

WALLEYE – FAIR. Simmer pattern is still on, and mid-lake humps and rock bars are where anglers are locating some keepers over 15 inches. Leeches with slip bobbers are the bait that is working as are crawlers. Anglers fishing for Walleye are also boating Sm. Mouth Bass. Like every week, don’t forget the evening bite in shallower weeds and shorelines when they come up to feed.

PERCH – FAIR.  (still fish deeper). Like last week’s report, locate cabbage in 6 to 14 feet, you should find perch. Some anglers are still finding them in 12 to 16 feet over mud bottoms. Crawlers are still working well, and some anglers are using crappie minnows too.

CRAPPIE – GOOD. What a difference a week makes. With the water cooling a bit, the Crappie bite has picked up some. Some anglers are finding nice size fish 4 feet deep over weeds in 7 feet of water. Others are being caught suspended in deeper water (10 to 12 feet) and Crappie minnows and/or crawlers is the bait being use.

BLUEGILL – GOOD. Nothing has changed from last week; Gills are being caught everywhere on the chain in 4 to 6 feet weeds. A piece of crawler, wax worms, beaver tails are the bait to use.

SM MOUTH – GOOD. Like last week, Some Smallies are being caught using plastics in 10 to 20 feet vegetation. And bit deeper weeds to rock areas. A few Walleyes are being boated by Bass anglers too.

Lg. BASS – GOOD.  6-inch weedless jig heads with soft plastics (worms) are working around shoreline weeds 6 to 12 feet. Also try top water baits are early in the day.

MUSKY – I only know a few people that tried to target Muskies and only a few have seen a couple of follows but those were small fish.  

NORTHERN PIKE – GOOD. Nothing has changed from last week. Pike bite has been getting better (early morning has been the best) with the water cooling a bit.  Still fish deeper weeds and inlets from other lakes as this water will be a few degrees cooler. ALL bait, live and artificial have been productive.

PLEASE RELEASE WALLEYES OVER 24 INCHES. THESE BIG GIRLS PRODUCE MORE EGGS AND LARGER WALLEYES IN THE FUTURE.
