There is a NEW LIMIT ON WALLEYE for WISCONSIN- MICHIGAN BOUNDARY WATERS (Cisco Chain). Even though in the Wisconsin DNR 2026-2027 hook and line fishing regulation book (page 76) states the daily limit for walleye is 5 over 15 inches, their website says only 3 walleyes over 15 inches can be kept on (Mamie, West Bay & Big Lake) the Cisco Chain of lakes. But the limit of walleyes on the Chain for MICHIGAN LAKES is still 5 over 15 inches.

DEPENDING ON WHAT LAKE YOU ARE ON THE CHAIN, AS OF WEDNESDAY, THE WATER TEMPERATURE IS 73 to 77 DEGREES. 

WALLEYE – FAIR. By now, one would think Walleye should be in the summer pattern on (structure), but anglers are not marking ANY FISH on mid-lake humps or deeper rock bars. More Walleyes are being found and caught in the deeper 10 to12 feet end of wood (trees). Leeches with slip bobbers and fathead minnows seem to be the bait to use. Don’t forget the evening bite in shallower weeds and shorelines when they come up to feed.

PERCH – FAIR. One would think they would be in large schools now, but people, including myself are only catching a few perch with a couple keepers in one location. Tuesday, I was finding Perch near shoreline weeds, but it was a light bite. Monica and I also found a few perch locate in 6-to-8-foot cabbage. I have NOT heard any anglers catching them in water over 12 feet anymore. Crawlers are still working well, and some anglers are using crappie minnows too.

CRAPPIE – GOOD. The Crappie bite has picked up a little. Some anglers are finding nice size fish in 6 to 8 feet cabbage. Crappie are also being landed in 4 to 6 feet of water in the evening. Like last week, other crappies are being caught suspended in deeper water (10 to 12 feet). Crappie minnows and/or crawlers is the bait being use & small plastic on a jig has been working too.

BLUEGILL – GOOD. Nothing has changed from last week; Gills are being caught everywhere on the chain in 4 to 6 feet weeds. A piece of crawler, wax worms, beaver tails are the bait to use.

SM MOUTH BASS- GOOD.  Smallies are being found near shoreline weeds using small to medium plastics lures along with fathead minnows and even crawlers are working. And shallow shorelines with rock using the same baits. A few Walleyes are being boated by Bass anglers too.

LG. MOUTH BASS – FAIR.  I haven’t heard anything different from last week on this species.

MUSKY – A few anglers have been finding some in shallow weeds and weed flats. Others (2) have been picked over rocks in 5 to 7 feet of water.  

NORTHERN PIKE – GOOD.  Pike fishing is still good (early morning is still the best). I caught a nice size (34″) Tuesday in 8 feet over weeds while fishing for Perch. Inlets from other lakes as this water will be a few degrees cooler should not be overlooked. ALL bait, live and artificial have been productive.

PLEASE RELEASE WALLEYES OVER 24 INCHES. THESE BIG GIRLS PRODUCE MORE EGGS AND LARGER WALLEYES IN THE FUTURE.
