CISCO CHAIN FISHING REPORT 7-2 26

There is a NEW LIMIT ON WALLEYE for WISCONSIN- MICHIGAN BOUNDARY WATERS (Cisco Chain). Even though in the Wisconsin DNR 2026-2027 hook and line fishing regulation book (page 76) states the daily limit for walleye is 5 over 15 inches, their website says only 3 walleyes over 15 inches can be kept on (Mamie, West Bay & Big Lake) the Cisco Chain of lakes. But the limit of walleyes on the Chain for MICHIGAN LAKES is still 5 over 15 inches.

THE WATER TEMPS ARE GOING UP AND ARE NOW LOW TO MID-70 DEGREES, BUT 6 to 12 FEET IS STILL THE DEPTH TO FISH.

WALLEYE – FAIR to GOOD. Some anglers are having luck catching walleyes in weeds using fathead minnows, but the bait that’s really doing well is leeches.  6 to 12 feet of water on weed edges has been producing fair size fish. Like last week, Mid-lake humps topping out at 8 to14 feet have been producing as has rock/gravel. DO NOT overlook the evening bite in shallower weeds and shorelines when they come up to feed.

PERCH – FAIR. The perch bite has slowed some. This time of year, you would think they be in schools, but anglers should keep moving to pick 2 or 3 from different locations. Still stick with 4 to 7 feet in cabbage. Crawler and crappie minnows are the bait to use. Also try deeper end of wood too.

CRAPPIE – FAIR. The crappie bite has slowed again, but Anglers have been finding crappie suspended in deeper water, shoreline weeds and wood in 6 to 8 feet is doing well. Crappie minnows and/or crawlers is the bait to use.

BLUEGILL – GOOD. This is the fish that is being caught everywhere on the chain in 4 to 6 feet weeds.  The best bait being used is wax worms.

SM MOUTH – GOOD. If you’re a Bass angler, the number of Smallies being caught has truly picked up. Same as last week, plastics are working in a bit deeper water over rocks.

Lg. BASS – GOOD.  Soft plastics (worms) has been productive around shoreline weeds.

MUSKY – GOOD. With the water in the low to mid-70s some nice size muskies being boated but nothing huge yet. mid-size (6 to 8 inch) plastics in 6 to 10 feet vegetation is the place to try.

NORTHERN PIKE – GOOD. Northern Pike are being caught everywhere. Most Northern caught in weeds but moved a little deeper. ALL bait, live and artificial have been productive.

WITH THE WEATHER BEING HOTTER FOR THE NEXT WEEK, THIS COULD CHANGE LOCATIONS AND DEPTHS.

PLEASE RELEASE WALLEYES OVER 24 INCHES. THESE BIG GIRLS PRODUCE MORE EGGS AND LARGER WALLEYES IN THE FUTURE.
