CISCO CHAIN FISHING REPORT
There is a NEW LIMIT ON WALLEYE for WISCONSIN- MICHIGAN BOUNDARY WATERS (Cisco Chain). Even though in the Wisconsin DNR 2026-2027 hook and line fishing regulation book (page 76) states the daily limit for walleye is 5 over 15 inches, their website says only 3 walleyes over 15 inches can be kept on (Mamie, West Bay & Big Lake) the Cisco Chain of lakes. But the limit of walleyes on the Chain for MICHIGAN LAKES is still 5 over 15 inches.
Water temperatures have been fluctuating between 48 to 52 degrees.
WALLEYE – I will say GOOD but have slowed a bit. With water temperature fluctuating between 48 to 52 degrees, walleyes are still being caught in cover and over structure. Some have been boated Early mornings in 6-to-8-foot vegetation and moving out to the first drop off 10 to 14-foot range later in the day. Rocks/ gravel have been producing some fish, again 10 to 12 feet. Some anglers have been catching walleye on the deeper end of wood also. As always, DON’T overlook the evening bite on rock bars in 8-to-12-foot range and shallower weeds. WALLEYE SUCKERS and FATHEAD MINNOWS have been the go-to bait.
PERCH – GETTING BETTER. The perch bite is starting to come on, and 6 to 8 feet new weeds seems to be the norm. Crawler and crappie minnows are working well.
CRAPPIE – GOOD. They haven’t spawned yet and if the weather would stabilize this probably will not happen until the beginning or mid-June when water temps reach 60 degrees. But cold fronts can change that.
BLUEGILL – FAIR. Not many are being caught and the ones that are, have been small.
SM MOUTH – Sorry zilch. But with the water hovering around 50 degrees, they will be the next spawners.
Lg. BASS – I have nothing to report.
MUSKY – Again, see above.
NORTHERN PIKE – GOOD. Northern Pike are being caught everywhere. Walleye and panfish anglers are ALL hooking Northern and a few have been close to 30 inches. This fish has been chasing all bait, live and artificial.
PLEASE RELEASE WALLEYES OVER 24 INCHES. THESE BIG GIRLS PRODUCE MORE EGGS AND LARGER WALLEYES IN THE FUTURE.
