I have written before about fishing etiquette because of things I have seen and had happen to me, but now I’m adding boat etiquette to that also for this reason. While fishing one day on BIG LAKE a few weeks ago, Monica and I were in a spot we normally catch nice size perch and had been in that location for about 30 minutes. At this time a boat pulling a skier was heading towards us and passed us within 200 feet of my pontoon.

I will tell you, we were not too happy when this happened. Then the boat turned and not only came back in our direction but proceeded to pass us once again, but this time was on the opposite side of our boat and pulled the skier between us and an island. Now, the distance between the island and our pontoon was about 50 yards, so you can only imagine the wake this boat made.

Could the operator of this boat continue to pull the skier around the island instead of the sharp turn and heading back toward us? YES, HE COULD HAVE. Why did this idiot decide to circle us when we were trying to fish? Sorry, but the only reason I can come up with is he was an IDIOT (I wanted to write a different word but).  After this encounter I decided to leave the area and head to another location.

While heading back to WEST BAY I saw this boat again and could not believe now what I was seeing. There was a canoer and kayaker close to shore and this SAME boat pulling the SAME skier passed those two within 50 yards. Let me tell you, these two people got some big wakes, and I was shocked the canoe and kayak did not capsize.

Just a heads up, there is a law that states A PERSON CAN NOT OPERATE A MOTORBOAT WITHIN 100 FEET OF AN OCCUPIED ANCHORED BOAT, PUBLIC LANDING, PERSONAL WATERCRAFT OR SWIM AREA. 

Maybe this person doesn’t know about this Wisconsin law or as long as they are having fun, just doesn’t care how he operates his boat. Once again and I’m sorry, but this idiot (again I wanted to write another word but) just lacks common sense and respect for others on the lake. Ok, the word is ASSHOLE.
