CISCO CHAIN FISHING REPORT 6-11 26
There is a NEW LIMIT ON WALLEYE for WISCONSIN- MICHIGAN BOUNDARY WATERS (Cisco Chain). Even though in the Wisconsin DNR 2026-2027 hook and line fishing regulation book (page 76) states the daily limit for walleye is 5 over 15 inches, their website says only 3 walleyes over 15 inches can be kept on (Mamie, West Bay & Big Lake) the Cisco Chain of lakes. But the limit of walleyes on the Chain for MICHIGAN LAKES is still 5 over 15 inches.
Sorry about not posting a fishing report last week as Monica and I were out of town for most of the week. But we’re back and here we go.
Depending on location, water temperatures have been fluctuating between 72to 75 degrees.
WALLEYE – I will say GOOD. With water temperature climbing into the 70s walleyes are still being caught in shallow cover (weeds) but fishing a little deeper (6′ to 12′) structure (first dropoff to deeper water) might be worth a try. As I reported two weeks ago, when fishing shallow vegetation, position your boat in 8 to 10 feet of water and cast shallow (6 feet) using jigs tipped with a FATHEAD minnow or leeches under a float. I you prefer casting, small swimbaits could produce fish too. DO NOT overlook the evening bite in shallower weeds and shorelines, and all of the above baits can be effective.
PERCH – GOOD. The perch seem to be getting closer to summer pattern and 4 to 6 feet new weeds seems to be the norm. Crawler and crappie minnows are working well. Anglers fishing for perch also have been boating a handful of walleyes also.
CRAPPIE – GOOD to FAIR. The crappie bite has slowed but still, some nice sizes are being caught. Shoreline weeds 4 to 8 feet have been the productive, but wood (drowned trees) 5′ to 8′ has been getting better bites. And jig with crappie minnows and/or crawlers is the bait to use.
BLUEGILL – GOOD. Gills are coming on strong with A LOT of nice size being boated using a small jig or plain hook tipped with a crawler.
SM MOUTH – How a couple of weeks can change things. BUT UNTIL JUNE 20th, ITS CATCH AND RELEASE. If smallies are the species you’re after, with the water being over 72 shoreline rocks 6′ to 8′ and outside spawning locations is a good starting point.
Lg. BASS – A few good size Lg Mouths have been caught, but some might not agree with me on this. How about waiting until spawning is over?
MUSKY – , Most have been around the 30-inch range, but I’ve heard of a few decent size fish being caught on swimbaits and twitch baits in 6 to 10 feet of water.
NORTHERN PIKE – GOOD. Like the last few weeks, Northern Pike are being caught everywhere. Walleye and panfish anglers are ALL hooking Northerns from snakes to over 20 inches. This fish has been chasing all bait, live and artificial.
PLEASE RELEASE WALLEYES OVER 24 INCHES. THESE BIG GIRLS PRODUCE MORE EGGS AND LARGER WALLEYES IN THE FUTURE.
